The White Bull Tavern in Roma, Queensland, has been a beloved local institution since 1995. However, the history of venue stretches back to 1880, when the Western Railway Hotel was first established. Initially, the hotel featured eight guest bedrooms and became a popular stop for travellers.
By 1889, the hotel was renamed Railway Hotel and became known for its cosy atmosphere, offering “Loaf of Bread and Cheese” with beer for just six pence. Over the years, the hotel underwent several renovations, including a major refurbishment in 1897 and another significant upgrade in 1914, which featured luxurious new fittings, such as silky oak furniture and stamped metal ceilings.
Tragically, in 1919, the Railway Hotel was destroyed by fire; however, a new building was quickly constructed on the same site in 1920. The hotel continued to serve the local community until 1994, when the original building was relocated to a private property near Roma.
Today, the White Bull Tavern is a family-friendly venue offering contemporary pub classics, a welcoming atmosphere, and a comfortable space for locals and visitors alike. With respects to its rich history, the White Bull Tavern is excited to continue its legacy in the heart of Roma.
